A huge dental infection with an abscess is drained.
A tooth abscess is one of the most frequent oral problems. The abscess forms when pus from an infection collects in the area around the root within the dental bone. If the abscessed tooth is not treated, it can lead to a serious infection of the dental bone and surrounding tissues.
Treatments for a tooth abscess:
An abscess has different treatments depending on the severity of the infection. Here are some of the methods that a dentist may consider:
A) Prescribing antibiotics may be necessary. Antibiotics will destroy the bacteria that cause the infection.
B) The dentist may drain the pus from the infected area.
C) Once the area is cleaned, it is essential to detect and treat the cause of the tooth abscess:
If this has been caused by gum disease, it will be essential to clean the space between the tooth and the gum.
If the origin of the abscess is a caries or a fractured tooth, a root canal treatment (endodontics) or a filling may be performed. If the tooth cannot be saved, it may need to be extracted.

Dental Assisting - Assist with Minor Oral Surgery (excerpt)
We are excited to bring to you our brand new suite of Dental Assisting education modules with web-based skills simulations. A first for dental education!
This video is a tiny sneak peek into our Dental Assisting - Assist with Minor Oral Surgery module. Each module doesn't only have a video, but also contains a simulation where you can learn and practice the procedure interactively, step by step, then test your skills. On top of that you'll get an illustrated text description of the skill or procedure to read, a 3D model of relevant anatomy or equipment to explore, and a multi-choice quiz. All activity and scores are tracked in the logbook, so you can see your progress over time.
You can find more information about all our DA modules here: https://www.simtics.com/shop/dental-assisting

The Physics Forceps® are an atraumatic extraction system that provides a simple, predictable and unconventional method of extracting teeth regardless of a practitioner’s extraction experience, or the condition of the tooth, while providing a positive patient experience.
The Physics Forceps® operate as an elevator, rather than forceps, using first-class lever mechanics. One handle is connected to a "bumper," which acts as the fulcrum, that is placed deep in the vestibule. The other handle is connected to the "beak," which is positioned most often on the lingual or palatal root of the tooth into the gingival sulcus. No aspect of the instrument grasps the crown and there is no advanced elevation needed. Once the instrument is properly placed, the handles are rotated a few degrees with only wrist movement in a slow, steady and controlled manner — no squeezing!
The Physics Forceps® are effective in most cases, including badly decayed or broken down teeth, endodontically treated teeth, fractured or fragile teeth, curved or long rooted molars and cuspids, or any tooth that would historically be challenging with conventional instrumentation. The Physics Forceps® are ideal for implantologist that wants to preserve the surrounding bone and tissue in preparation for dental implants.

Tooth Extraction in Amarillo TX: Orlando | Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Teeth extractions are a common procedure in most oral surgery offices, including our office in Amarillo, Texas. Extractions are only recommended when removing a tooth will preserve the health of your other teeth and oral structures. Oral surgeons are trained to extract teeth efficiently and safely, eliminating any threat that may compromise your oral health. Sometimes your dentist can repair a damaged tooth through fillings, root canals, or other dental procedures, but in more severe cases, an extraction is the only way to treat a problem tooth. If you have one or more teeth that need to be removed, our oral surgeons will outline your treatment options during a consultation appointment. If you are worried about having missing teeth, we offer permanent tooth replacement solutions such as dental implants. The dental implant can sometimes even be placed during the same procedure as a dental extraction to minimize the number of procedures necessary to restore your oral health.

This video discusses the approach to removing a retained root that has been partially overgrown by the gingiva.
I removed 2 x wisdom tooth! 🦷🦷 I was worried since it has been a long time since I last removed any tooth. It wasn't painful at all (thanks to local anaesthetic).
I extracted in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) dental clinic, and it cost $130 for 2 teeth. It is classified as "Extraction Complexity I", which I suppose is the easiest surgery. There is NO hammering nor stitching.
On the day before, I watched a terrifying video, which is probably for complex cases. FYI only https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mk8I3tTod8
With anaesthetic, you won't feel anything either way.
0:00 Day of removal, why I did it
2:16 After removal, how it goes
4:06 Extraction process
The numb goes away in a few hours. There will be some blood in mouth on the first day, but the following day, it clotted fully and no more blood. Doesn't affect my diet, and I don't miss the 2 teeth at all 😂
REASONS WHY I REMOVE WISDOM TOOTH:
1. Gonna do braces and need the space as they are overcrowded
2. I have the upper molar WITHOUT the lower, so they are useless
3. Hard to brush/floss, so they're always dirty
4. To avoid possible gum infection or decay in the future
