Many people who develop a full set of adult teeth may be unaware that they have an additional set of molars developing in the far back of their mouth. These can remain under the surface of the gum that can cause significant problems. This third set of molars is better known as the wisdom teeth. If you do not receive regular examinations, you may not know that you have wisdom teeth until they become a problem, and you experience pain or infection. Wisdom teeth extraction is one of the most common treatments performed by oral surgeons and is received by patients regularly.
Dr. Bobst is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery and has always been active in continuing education. His goal has been to establish a practice that maintains the highest standards of excellence in patient care. Dr. Bobst's desire was always to be a healthcare provider; he received a BA in biology from California State University. From there, he earned a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, CA and spent 5 years focusing on specialty training in oral & maxillofacial surgery.

The Physics Forceps® are an atraumatic extraction system that provides a simple, predictable and unconventional method of extracting teeth regardless of a practitioner’s extraction experience, or the condition of the tooth, while providing a positive patient experience.
The Physics Forceps® operate as an elevator, rather than forceps, using first-class lever mechanics. One handle is connected to a "bumper," which acts as the fulcrum, that is placed deep in the vestibule. The other handle is connected to the "beak," which is positioned most often on the lingual or palatal root of the tooth into the gingival sulcus. No aspect of the instrument grasps the crown and there is no advanced elevation needed. Once the instrument is properly placed, the handles are rotated a few degrees with only wrist movement in a slow, steady and controlled manner — no squeezing!
The Physics Forceps® are effective in most cases, including badly decayed or broken down teeth, endodontically treated teeth, fractured or fragile teeth, curved or long rooted molars and cuspids, or any tooth that would historically be challenging with conventional instrumentation. The Physics Forceps® are ideal for implantologist that wants to preserve the surrounding bone and tissue in preparation for dental implants.
Some procedures do not require full anesthesia. In these cases, sedation is used to keep you comfortable and relaxed during your procedure. You may be aware or have memories of a procedure done under sedation, and this is normal. In some cases, it is necessary to change from sedation to full general anesthesia.
After your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area where a nurse will monitor you as you continue to emerge from anesthesia. Do not make any important decisions for at least 24 hours after any type of anesthesia.

He completed a general practice hospital residency at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he gained tremendous experience in the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implants. Do you wish your third molars, or "wisdom teeth," never came in? Many of us do because they often cause problems and need to be removed. Fortunately, a fairly routine procedure, wisdom tooth extraction can be the answer for an impacted tooth, which fails to pass through the gums, or an erupted tooth, which does pass through the gums, but may still need to be removed. During this interactive procedure, you will begin by taking x-rays of the tooth in question, numbing the site, and then injecting the anesthetic. Then you will loosen the periodontal ligament and use a dental elevator to lift the tooth. Finally, you will use dental forceps to loosen and remove the tooth and leave your patient to recover. Scrub in and let's get started!
Here is a wisdom tooth removal that I completed in 44 seconds start to finish!
Wisdom teeth extractions aren't always as difficult as you picture. This patient had pain that we were able to relieve extremely quickly. We called her the following day and she had a lot of relief, and then she called the following day to say that her pain was almost completely gone.
This is a very satisfying treatment to be able to offer someone to get them out of pain.
