What is pericoronitis and what other complications can wisdom teeth cause? How is wisdom teeth extraction performed?

In this 3D video from Clínica Pardiñas (http://j.mp/cPardinas) we talk about pericoronitis and other complications that wisdom teeth and their extraction can cause. Among the main problems we find gum inflammation, extrusion of opposing teeth, cavities, etc. The different positions in which the wisdom teeth can be placed and their implications are represented. Finally, it is shown how to perform a wisdom toth extraction.

How to avoid infection after tooth extraction 👉 http://bit.ly/drysocketDT.

A wisdom tooth that erupts in a bad position can lead to pericoronitis. That is, an infection of the gums that surrounds the wisdom tooth, and whose symptoms include pain, inflammation, bleeding or bad breath. Wisdom tooth extraction solves this problem. But if the opposite tooth is not extracted, as it does not have contact with the lower one, it will gradually extrude, which may cause unwanted premature contact and again an inflammation of the lower gum. If the wisdom tooth is in a horizontal position, it can come into contact with the 2nd molar causing damage that can even end with the loss of both teeth. To remove a wisdom tooth that has not erupted, an incision is made and the overlying bone is released. Sometimes it´s necessary to divide the tooth in different parts, in order to properly remove it. Different materials such as Plasma Rich in Growth Factors can be placed in the alveolus, which accelerates healing.

Tooth extractions can be the best option when teeth become damaged by decay or break down due to trauma or wear, they can sometimes be restored with a filling, root canal, or crown. When the damage is too great, your dentist may decide that the best course of action is to have the tooth removed, a dental extraction. If this is the case, your dentist will develop a plan for extraction, taking into consideration your age, health, and the overall condition of your mouth.

Yes, he can. A patient is classified as a diabetic if the fasting blood glucose is constantly above 140 mg/dl. A fasting blood glucose level of below 200 mg/dl is considered safe for most minor oral surgical procedures including extractions. However being diabetic makes you prone for lot of infections and has a poor effect on the healing capacity of the whole body. Hence it is mandatory to have an adequate amount of broad spectrum antibiotic coverage before and after your dental extraction. Also an optimum levels of blood glucose levels has to be maintained. So don’t skip your insulin or any other oral antihypoglycemic medications prescribed by your doctor. A preoperative blood glucose evaluation will be required by your dentist. Also if possible, a morning appointment schedule for your dentist would be ideal. Being diabetic doesn’t exclude you form any kind of dental treatment or you have to shy away from going to your dentist. You can always get your regular checkups doe, your scaling and restorations and fillings done without any hassle but for slightly complex and invasive procedures like the gingival flap surgeries or the implant procedures, there are few things you have to keep in mind and keep in check, the first is the random blood sugar, the RBS test will be required. The second one is HbA1C below 7 is what is ideal and the third and the key element is to be in constant touch with your dentist. Keep coming for follow up’s and schedule appointments and request the dentist for every moth appointments and they would gladly oblige and if anything goes wrong, we would be glad to help you out and monitor it.

Surgical Removal of Tongue Cancer Animation

https://www.FauquierENT.net - Animation showing how tongue cancer is removed via wedge excision and then closed primarily. Small to medium sized tongue cancer is amenable to this type of surgical approach where up to 1/3 of the tongue can be removed without affecting speech and swallow as long as nerve function remains intact and the tongue tip is left alone. If the tongue tip is removed, far less tongue can be removed before it will start to affect speech. Why? Because the tongue tip is used to help articulate words. How much can be removed before it starts to affect speech depends on the tongue length and shape. Swallow is typically unaffected. If more than 1/3 of the tongue is removed, some degree of reconstruction will be required involving taking skin and muscle from the forearm to fill the space lost to the tongue resection (procedure is called radial forearm free flap).

The most common type of tongue cancer is squamous cell carcinoma.

Wisdom Tooth Removal in Amarillo TX | Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of the Panhandle Region - http://panhandleoralsurgery.com

Wisdom teeth, or Third molars, are an additional set of teeth, which grow under the surface of the gums and, in many cases, are undetectable without proper x-ray evaluation or 3-D scanning. In some cases, the third molars may fully grow into the mouth or partially grow into the mouth and additional issues may arise. Do you wish your third molars, or "wisdom teeth," never came in? Many of us do because they often cause problems and need to be removed. Fortunately, a fairly routine procedure, wisdom tooth extraction can be the answer for an impacted tooth, which fails to pass through the gums, or an erupted tooth, which does pass through the gums, but may still need to be removed. During this interactive procedure, you will begin by taking x-rays of the tooth in question, numbing the site, and then injecting the anesthetic. Then you will loosen the periodontal ligament and use a dental elevator to lift the tooth. Finally, you will use dental forceps to loosen and remove the tooth and leave your patient to recover. Scrub in and let's get started!

This animated dental video illustrates how impacted teeth can damage adjacent teeth, and the steps involved in their removal–before such problems occur. Typically, impacted teeth are not difficult to remove, because the bone and ligament containing them are usually not toughened by years of chewing function. Nonetheless, their extraction requires an appreciation of potential complications, and a carefully developed plan to avoid such issues. ~ Dental professionals can license more videos for their websites at https://member.ToothIQ.com

Steps to prevent Dry Socket after tooth extraction - Dr. Aarthi Shankar

The first and foremost advise will be to follow the instructions given to you following any extraction or any surgical procedure. The main instructions include no rinsing, no forcibly spitting or gargling, the reason being this will dislodge the clot from the extraction site. Another important instruction is to avoid using straw for drinking beverages. Straw usually creates a vacuum in your mouth. So this will forcibly dislodge the clot from the extraction site. You are usually not advised to smoke for one week or if possible after 10 days after the procedure as nicotine will produce high amount of heat in the oral cavity. This will dry the blood clot. If a woman is on oral contraceptives, then you should inform your doctor about it as estrogen is proven to hinder with healing process. You should also maintain a very good oral hygiene and this will prevent infections or dry socket from happening, You should stay hydrated and drink lots of water and have a balanced diet following an extraction, you should gently rinse the mouth with warm salt water, two or 3 days after the procedure. This helps in the healing process. Remember that you should not do forcible rinsing or spitting. So the basic rule of thumb is to prevent dry socket, we should follow the instruction given to you following a surgical procedure or a normal tooth extraction.

Extraction of Vertically Impacted Lower Wisdom Tooth with the Elevator

Extraction of a vertically impacted lower wisdom tooth with an elevator only. Do not apply the elevator between the second molar and third molar to avoid damage to the distal of second molar during the extraction of the third molar. The hardest bone and the best place for fulcrum for the elevator is on the buccal or distobuccal of the third molar crown.
