The Physics Forceps® are an atraumatic extraction system that provides a simple, predictable and unconventional method of extracting teeth regardless of a practitioner’s extraction experience, or the condition of the tooth, while providing a positive patient experience.

The Physics Forceps® operate as an elevator, rather than forceps, using first-class lever mechanics. One handle is connected to a "bumper," which acts as the fulcrum, that is placed deep in the vestibule. The other handle is connected to the "beak," which is positioned most often on the lingual or palatal root of the tooth into the gingival sulcus. No aspect of the instrument grasps the crown and there is no advanced elevation needed. Once the instrument is properly placed, the handles are rotated a few degrees with only wrist movement in a slow, steady and controlled manner — no squeezing!

The Physics Forceps® are effective in most cases, including badly decayed or broken down teeth, endodontically treated teeth, fractured or fragile teeth, curved or long rooted molars and cuspids, or any tooth that would historically be challenging with conventional instrumentation. Third molars, also known as wisdom teeth, usually come in between the ages of 17 and 25 and are the last molars to grow and develop. Often, there is not enough space for these teeth to come in properly, which can lead to impaction and other dental issues. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon may need to remove your third molars in Provo, UT, if there is not enough room in your mouth to accommodate them. Removal is often recommended before any oral health problems occur, and it is a common procedure at our office in Provo, UT. New camera, so still working on the angles. Surgical extraction of impacted third molar (wisdom tooth). Normally I would use chromic gut sutures, but for some reason silk was all I had that day.

The key to taking out impacted thirds is 1) making a flap so you can visualize the bone and tooth, and 2) to remove buccal bone in order to visualize the tooth and create space to elevate the tooth. The flap definitely could have gone more distal instead of going 90 degree buccally, but it should always go in a disto-buccal angle in a "hockey stick" type shape instead of going over the retromolar pad, as some patients may have the lingual nerve running through there.

The tooth probably could have easily been delivered without being sectioned, but I decided to section the crown off in order to facilitate delivering the tooth without risk of tearing or damaging the lingual soft tissue/lingual nerve.

Intentional replantation is an extraction of a tooth to do extraoral root canal therapy, curettage of apical lesion when present, and its replacement in its socket.
