This video discusses the causes of buccal plate fractures during dental extractions, how to best minimize the occurrence of this complication, and the management of a buccal plate fracture.

Infected or broken teeth often cannot be repaired and must be removed. If there is enough bone in the jaw, a dental implant can be used to replace the removed tooth. In this short video, Dr. Benjamin Yagoubian discusses one of his patients who required removal of an infected/broken tooth. Dr. Yagoubian explains that the patient had a badly infected and broken tooth that needed to be removed. You will see short clips of the actual patient during the removal of an infected/broken tooth. The tooth socket was cleaned, and a graft was placed to help increase the bone. Months later, the patient returned to Torrance Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center to have the titanium post for their dental implant inserted to replace the missing tooth. Dr. Yagoubian performed the implant procedure, which will allow a prosthetic tooth to be attached to the implant to restore normal function for the tooth.

Ankylosis is a terrible thing to happen to children's teeth, luckily there are things we can do to help.

Scaling and root planing are different forms of treatment for periodontitis periodontitis (or pyorrhea or gum disease).

In this 3D animation from Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas (http://j.mp/cPardinas) we talk about the diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis (pyorrhea) by performing scaling and root planing.

It shows how plaque and tartar will accumulate around the teeth and how it is removed using different instruments, thus returning the gum to a healthy state.
Here we can see the process of probing, one of the elements used to diagnose periodontal disease. The greater the measure, the greater is the existing periodontal pocket.
The progressive accumulation of plaque and tartar causes that the resorption of the bone that supports the teeth. Gums will show signs of inflammation and bleeding, among others. Once the accumulated plaque mineralizes, it becomes tartar, which can no longer be removed with regular brushing.
To remove tartar, curettes and ultrasound devices that are introduced below the gum are used. Polishing tools can also be used to polish the tooth surface. The gingiva in the absence of plaque and tartar will no longer be inflamed and will return to a healthy state.
This can originate retractions.
In a side view we can see the same process of scaling and root planing and the posterior healing of the gums.

Dental Implant Procedure - Two Stage

In a 2 stage dental implant placement situation the dental implant is placed and a cover screw is placed on top of it. the gum tissue is placed over it and the implant is not seen. After a few months the implant is exposed and a healing cap is then placed on the implant and the tissue allowed to heal around it. The advantage of the two stage treatment is that there is less chance of infection and implant failure. The disadvantage is that it takes longer for the treatment and involves two surgeries as opposed to one.

You will heal after tooth extraction in approximately 10 to 15 days. In this period, any discomfort will gradually disappear, and you will feel again excellent.

But as we just mentioned above, to complete the inner healing, the body needs a bit more than 15 days (8 weeks overall), so it is always a good idea to keep treating the extraction area carefully for a more extended period than 15 days.
