Do you wish your third molars, or "wisdom teeth," never came in? Many of us do because they often cause problems and need to be removed. Fortunately, a fairly routine procedure, wisdom tooth extraction can be the answer for an impacted tooth, which fails to pass through the gums, or an erupted tooth, which does pass through the gums, but may still need to be removed. During this interactive procedure, you will begin by taking x-rays of the tooth in question, numbing the site, and then injecting the anesthetic. Then you will loosen the periodontal ligament and use a dental elevator to lift the tooth. Finally, you will use dental forceps to loosen and remove the tooth and leave your patient to recover.
